This new pattern is definitely one of my favorites, and I’m also sharing a video with even more ideas and options for this design. Emma’s Garden Quilt | New […]

It took me a while (as I'm sure it did you) to settle into a Covid way of life and find a level of contentment in what I could safely function. Now it seems I have to reverse engines and go back the other way. The question is how far back do I want to go?
As things would have it, an official diagnosis of arthritis in my back last week will be a factor in my return to "normal" (whatever that is?). It's been suspected for several years and ...
read moreIt seems like February just started and now it's almost March. Spring is on the way! Of course, here in Michigan we still have a chance of snow until May. Almost every year around Easter, we will get hit with a huge snowstorm. Hopefully not this year. With spring right around the corner I thought I would do some spring cleaning... in my sewing room.
It was a disaster before this. I'm piecing 3 or 4 quilts right now. The main two are on the floor and on the wall. I found old log cabin blocks as I ... read moreMy first official finished quilt for 2022 and my goodness, I so love everything about this quilt. It is of course another slow sewing project - English paper pieced - a process that continues to hold all of my attention. Hexagons especially are a favorite. I know they're not for everyone, as they can be tedious to piece with lots of stop/start seams. But I just love them, I could sew hexagons all day, every day right now.
This quilt is designed by Emma from Treehouse Textiles, and was designed for the 2021 Treehouse Textiles Block of the Month program ...
read moreIt’s time to share a cuppa with a friend. If you are in a location that’s at the point of opening up after these two years of covid, make that date! Finally! If it’s not yet time, piece this charming mouse and give it to your friend instead as a biggish mug rug. This mouse $7.50 pattern makes a 10″ x 10″ square, or any size, as you can easily scale this up or down .
This mousie is based on lovely illustrations by Ellie Snowden. Search her out or ...
read moreHello, friends! Last week I met with a quilter interested in beginning English Paper Piecing so she could make Grandmother’s Flower Garden block projects. I realized I have a lot of content on this subject spread out in several different places. In today’s Simple Guide to English Paper Piecing, you’ll find everything you need in […]

read moreOh my, progress has been made on my Xmas Stars. This is an excellent project to work on while watching the Olympics. All the remaining pieces have now been prepped, but the sections need to be sewn together. Very soon, this will be a top! Oh happy day when that happens.
Last Friday, there was an impromptu garage day with three of us stitching away and getting caught up on news, etc. It has been over two years since we last did this and it was such a happy visit for us. Just a few hours to catch up and ... read moreGreetings from a sunny ( and balmy) snowy Northeast Ohio!!
It's 37 degrees F. and after the cold days last week, it feels quite nice. I might not even wear gloves outside today?!? Yes, all those comedy routines and jokes about us apply when the winter sun is shining and it gets up to freezing! We are on the downhill side of winter and the year round resident birds like cardinals and tufted titmice have started territorial singing as the daylight increases. Hearing them cheers me right up and is a signal to my brain that spring is coming!!

Border fabrics have been selected and that is a win-win for me as this is where my projects usually stall. Even backing fabric has been figured out. So, I will continue stitching away and hopefully by the end of February, it will be done and ready to send to the LAer.
Right now, this project is all that I want to work on. Borders, etc. on UFO's will just have to wait a week or so .... but this must be done! LOLLife in the slow lane ..... good for the soul!
It has been slow going, but progress is being made. More than half done now. The big section at the top has been sewn together.
How satisfying it feels when basting stitches are starting to be removed ......

Welcome to Week 360 of Free Motion Mavericks. I feel like I've been avoiding it long enough - like a groundhog who pops out of his den and finds that snow is on the ground and Christmas and the holidays are almost here! Yikes...unlike the groundhog, there's no going back to sleep now!

I've been busy working on my new project ..... hummmm ..... squirrel! Xmas Stars is coming along very nicely. It will be just a large lap size and if one star is completed per week ..... well, this should be done in a few months. I'm still deciding about the edges. Not sure if this will be the final look.

Well, I have a very bad squirrel problem here! Only in my studio just in case someone really thinks that there are squirrels in the house. LOL
After finishing my last top with the rectangles, more pieces were cut out and another top started. If I really concentrated on this project, the top will be sewn together very quickly. It is just that easy to do.
Oh, dear ..... then after purchasing the 2021 November/December version of Fons & Porter "Love of Quilting", there was a star quilt that kept me going back to look at. So, I've started my ...
read moreIt's time for a blog update! I have been busy sewing, but have - hopefully temporarily - lost my blogging momentum. Here in Melbourne we've had a LOT of home time due to local lockdown and covid restrictions, and as such I have had much time to sit, sew, and reflect. Some days and weeks have been more productive than others, but there seems to be a light at the end of a slow long Winter. It's almost Summer and it feels like we're heading into the good (and jolly) season. This week I took some time to ...
